Which I find to be the best way to handle it tbh because then you can choose where to reload if need be. While you still can, and probably will at least once, miss click an enemy and walk past, I found the highlighting a little more clear in the second game. The story, combat, interface, and skill systems are all a step up imo. The second improves on a lot of areas though. I am currently playing through both of them and agree with a lot of your frustrations for the first game. It is a fun game, but I hear 2 is better.īased on your review I would highly recommend trying out the second game. I recommend playing it, because mostly these were just nitpicking from me, but deal breakers for others. When I got inside the “final dungeon” I saw what the puzzle was and just googled the solution to save my sanity.ĭespite all its flaws, this game is worth playing. The final stretch of the game dragged on for me. Why give me the ability to befriend them in the first place if their loot is REQUIRE!? There are instances where you can befriend some NPCs and skip completely over their blood stone, only to have to go back and kill them after befriending them. You must get every Star Stone and Blood Stone to open the final passage of the game. In fact, I think they are more interesting than the two primary protagonists you create.Įven when you hold down ALT and can see everything on the screen, hunting for switches in rooms is a nightmare. I like all the secondary party members and their stories. The main story starts out interesting, unfortunately after it unfolds into grander stacks is when it becomes less so. It seems they were self-aware, made a joke, and kept the system in place. The first NPC basically asks: “What kind of moron solves their problems with Rock, Paper, Scissors.” - heavily paraphrased. Worse, in the last section of the game there are two NPCs arguing and suggests to the other they resolve their dispute using Rock, Paper, Scissors. It is immersion breaking, it’s bad, it makes your choices feel like they do not matter because RNG can force you into combat or lock you out of ways to complete certain objectives (there is always another way). To settle disputes with NPCs, the Source-Hunter you are controlling, must engage in a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Role-playing interactions: This is the biggest failure of the game for me.

It was underwhelming how often that seemed to be the solution. In fact, most puzzles solutions are: Split the party, have someone get over traps and remain undetected (Scoundrels have two abilities, one that makes them invisible and another that makes them float over traps and hazards), then use the teleporter pyramids to teleport the rest of the party past danger. However, Scoundrel is borderline necessary for solving some puzzles. There are skill distributions in the game and depending on where you invest your points you can buy different sets of “class abilities.” All skill book types are useful in combat I have found.

Luckily, the game still held my attention well at this point, so it did not drive me away from playing. I have lost as much as 90 minutes of progress because I put my faith in the auto-save functionality in the beginning of the game. This game does have auto-save functionality however, it is not often.

Due to unintended inputs enemies would sometimes get the advantage due to this and turn the tide of battle in their favor, forcing me to lose or load my most recent save. Gameplay: Gameplay, for the most part is fun:Ĭombat is an enjoyable time, although there are times when I would click an enemy to attack, but instead, I would just move next to them wasting my AP.
